Kate Treick | Selling Your First StickyApp

Kate Treick has been using StickyAlbums with great success for years. Like many professional photographers, she’s been looking for opportunities to increase her income with her photography. When she heard about StickyApps she got excited. She was already working with local businesses and she knew that being able to bundle services that she was already providing with a mobile friendly website was a great fit.

Almost immediately, she identified a dance studio that she was already providing photography for as a top prospect. Their site was not mobile friendly, had too much information on it and the images weren’t very good. She was reluctant to approach them though. She still had a lot of questions about how StickyApps worked and wasn’t sure that she could actually build a site!

Sometimes opportunities knock on our door and that’s what happened to Kate. The dance studio owner mentioned that she was meeting with someone to talk about redoing her website and Kate knew that if she didn’t speak up, she might lose her chance.

Before meeting with her, Kate built an app with the images that she’d taken of the studio’s dancers. The studio owner had been very nervous about changing things but she loved the site and the services that Kate was able to bundle into an affordable monthly fee and purchased the app on the spot.

This first StickyApp sale taught Kate some valuable lessons.

Keep the goals of the small business in mind.

The dance studio owner does a lot of charity work and her biggest goal is to bring dance into children’s lives. She needed a site that would let people know what her studio was about and make it easy for her dancers and their families to access information. Understanding this goal helped Kate build a custom mobile app and monthly package that was relevant and useful to the business owner.

Go to all of your clients asking, “What could I offer that would be helpful?”. Asking questions first rather than trying to speak first changes the conversation, and what you walk away with is maybe being able to come up with something really creative that’s better than what you had originally thought about.

Timing is everything!

Jump at opportunities. Don’t let a lack of confidence keep you from approaching potential businesses. The worst thing that will happen is you’ll be told “No”.

Think Outside the Box

Kate’s client needed to be able to have some forms available for clients to download. With the help of StickyApps customer support, she was able to upload the forms to Dropbox as PDFs that can be downloaded from the app.
